Members News and Reports:

Ken Barston reffered to ‘The Deal’ meeting held in Ashton. He had considered making a funding application but decided that, if regular maintenance cannot be guaranteed, it wasn’t worth bidding.

Mary Pennington disseminated the Archaeology Society newsletters for September and October, which provide a useful update on their work at Kirkless.

Derek Wilde reported on the society’s continuing work recording graves, including those at St Anne’s in Shevington, the ‘My Life’ project at Standish Equestrian Centre, ongoing work in Hindley and a variety of enquiries with the ‘Help Desk’ of the Museum of Wigan Life on Monday afternoons.

John O’Neill reported on the recent annual ‘Thank You’ meeing at Greenheart, in association with Lancashire Wildlife Trust, on the theme ‘Healthy Communities, and plans for a visitor centre to be developed at Wigan Flashes.

Any Other Business:

John O’Neill allerted members to the importance of Wigan Council’s fortcoming ‘Allocations Plan’, including its ‘Open Spaces, Sports & Recreation Assesment’ report - open to public consultation from mid-October (see Council’s website for more information). Note essay compitition awards at the next meeting.
